About this site
This is a small independent English-language guide to Setenil de las Bodegas, the white village built under the rock in the Sierra de Cádiz, and to the places a visitor is likely to combine with it: Ronda, the other White Villages and the routes from Málaga and Seville. It is written and maintained by one person, independently.
It is not the town’s own website. This site has no connection to the Ayuntamiento (town hall) of Setenil de las Bodegas, to the Setenil tourist office, to the Junta de Andalucía or to any tour operator. Nobody pays to appear on it.
How we decide what goes on the site
Every page starts from sources we can name: the town hall’s own pages, the tourist office’s street map and brochure, Junta de Andalucía decrees and records, the national statistics office (INE) for population, and operators’ own listings for tour details. Where sources disagree, and on Setenil they often do, we say which figure we used and why.
Setenil has plenty of stories attached to it: seven sieges, a name that supposedly means “seven times nothing”, a queen who gave birth during the siege. We include them, but legend gets labelled as legend. Where something is repeated everywhere and we cannot find a source for it, we leave it out.
We don’t name individual bars, restaurants or shops. Businesses in a small town change hands, and an undated directory is not good enough to send you to one.
Fees, opening hours, timetables and closures change without warning. Where we could not find an official figure, we say so and tell you who to ask, rather than repeat a number from a blog.
Tours, hotels and how we make money
Tours on this site link to GetYourGuide. If you book through one of those links we earn a small commission, and the price you pay is the same as it would be otherwise. We do not run the tours and we are not GetYourGuide. We only say a tour stops in Setenil when its own listing shows a Setenil stop. Some pages also link to hotels on Booking.com and similar sites. A script from Stay22 may turn those links into affiliate links, so a booking can earn us a commission from Stay22’s booking partners, again at no extra cost to you. We describe hotels from their own sites and public listings; we do not review them. The full explanation is on our affiliate disclosure page.
Tell us when we are wrong
Car parks change, bus timetables shift, a closed site reopens. If you find something out of date or plainly wrong on this site, email info@setenildelasbodegas.com with the page and what you saw. Corrections are welcome; we would rather hear it from you than leave it standing.
