The best time to visit Ronda, Setenil and the white villages of inland Andalusia is April to May or late September to October. Days are mild, around 17 to 26°C, and the hills are green. July and August average about 31°C in the afternoon, and November to January are the wettest months.
Inland Andalusia has two good seasons and two difficult ones. Spring and autumn are mild and green. Summer is hot and dry, and winter is cool and, in the mountains, very wet. This guide covers Ronda, Setenil de las Bodegas and the white villages of the Sierra de Cádiz, most of which sit between about 500 and 850 m.
The short answer: April to May, or late September to October.
Ronda weather by month
There are no official AEMET climate normals for Ronda or Setenil: Spain’s weather agency publishes normals for its main stations, and Ronda is not one of them. The table below uses 1991 to 2020 averages that we calculated from the ERA5 climate reanalysis (a global weather model rebuilt from past observations), via the Open-Meteo archive, for the model grid point covering Ronda at 722 m. Treat it as a good guide to the pattern, not as station data. Models smooth out extremes, so the hottest days and coldest nights are more extreme than the averages suggest.

Rain days are days with at least 1 mm. The year adds up to about 770 mm, almost all of it between October and May.
Ronda’s own city guide, published with Andalusia’s tourism board, gives an annual mean of 15°C and about 2,700 hours of sunshine a year, and warns that winters tend to be harsh and summers hot. That matches the table: this is mountain weather, not coastal weather.
Setenil weather
Setenil is 19 km from Ronda and sits a little lower, at about 640 m, so it runs slightly warmer. The same climate model data for Setenil gives average highs of about 32°C in July and 13°C in January, with the same rainfall pattern.
What the averages miss is the rock. Setenil’s tourism office says the two cave streets, Cuevas del Sol and Cuevas de la Sombra, keep their own microclimate, warm in winter and cool in summer. Cuevas de la Sombra is roofed over by the overhang. Our guide to the rock streets explains why.
The bigger issue in Setenil is crowds, not weather. GetYourGuide calls April to June the peak season, and the day-tour coaches from Málaga and Seville arrive from mid-morning to mid-afternoon. In summer and at weekends, come before 10:00 or after 18:00 and you will have the streets largely to yourself. The easiest way to manage that is to sleep in the village; our guide to hotels in Setenil de las Bodegas lists the options. Winter is the quietest time of all.
Spring: March to May
Spring is the best season for most visitors. The hills are green, temperatures rise from about 16°C in March to 21°C in May, and the evenings are long enough for a full day of driving. March and April still bring rain, so pack a light waterproof.
Holy Week falls in March or April and fills the villages. Arcos’s processions are declared of National Tourist Interest, and Setenil and Olvera hold their own.
Summer: June to August
June is warm and almost dry, a good month if you can take some heat. July and August average about 31°C in the afternoon and bring almost no rain. At over 700 m, Ronda’s nights cool to about 20°C, so evenings are pleasant.
Do your walking early, take long lunches in the shade, and save the viewpoints for the evening. From 1 June to 15 October the Junta de Andalucía closes the El Torreón trail in the Sierra de Grazalema for fire risk, and some other permit trails are cut short. Summer is also the season of village fairs.
Autumn: September to November
Late September and October are the second sweet spot. Temperatures drop back to the low or mid 20s, and Ronda’s September fair fills the first week of the month. October is also when the heavy rain returns: it averages about 95 mm, so expect some wet days.
From 16 October the Junta again authorises the Garganta Verde walk to the Ermita cave, and the summer fire restrictions end, which makes late October the start of the main hiking season around Grazalema.
Winter: December to February
Winter is cool, quiet and wet. December is the wettest month around Ronda, and nights average 5 to 6°C. You get Setenil’s rock streets almost to yourself.
Grazalema is a special case. It averages about 2,000 mm of rain a year, according to the Spanish Meteorological Association, and in the winter of 2025 to 2026 the village was evacuated after record rain. Mountain roads can close after storms, so check conditions before you drive.

Best time for each trip
A white villages road trip. May or October. Long, mild days for the one-day loop from Ronda, and the Puerto de las Palomas road between Zahara and Grazalema is at its best in clear spring or autumn light.
Setenil and Ronda as a day trip. Any month works, but avoid the middle of the day from April to June, when the coaches arrive. Without a car, our top pick from Málaga visits Setenil first, with 75 minutes there, then gives you four free hours in Ronda. See things to do in Ronda and how to get to Setenil.
Hiking in the Sierra de Grazalema. Mid-October to May, when the permit trails are open in full. Book permits ahead for spring weekends.
Avoiding crowds. January, February and November, if you don’t mind rain.
