Stay in El Mercadillo, within five minutes of the Puente Nuevo, if it is your first visit or you have no car. Pick the old town for quiet evenings, and a countryside hotel north of Ronda if you drive, since it puts you closer to Setenil. Central hotels sit inside a camera zone, so give them your number plate.
Most people should stay in El Mercadillo, the new-town side of the Puente Nuevo, where four hotels sit within five minutes’ walk of the bridge. Choose the old town, La Ciudad, if you want quiet streets after dark. Choose the area around the bus and train stations if you are on a budget or arriving by bus. And if you are driving to Setenil de las Bodegas and the white villages, a countryside hotel north of Ronda is the easiest base of all: free parking, no town traffic, and, from La Fuente de la Higuera, Setenil only about 15 km away.
One rule shapes every choice. Since 1 August 2025 only cars registered in Ronda may drive over the Puente Nuevo and along Calle Armiñán and Virgen de la Paz, and cameras catch the rest. That stretch is exactly where the bridge hotels are.

Drivers heading to Setenil |
Ronda is split in two by El Tajo, a gorge over 100 m deep. El Mercadillo, the new town with the bullring, is on the north side. Plaza de España, at its end of the bridge, is where you will find the Parador and Hotel Don Miguel. Stay here and you can walk onto the bridge before breakfast and again after dinner, with no car to think about.
La Ciudad, the Moorish old town, is across the bridge, with the Palacio de Mondragón, Santa María la Mayor and the old gates. It sits away from the bullring and the bus station. Driving in is the hard part, so book a hotel that sorts out your parking.
The station area is further out: our routing puts the Martínez Astein car park about 15 minutes’ walk from the bridge. The upside is the bus station, where the Setenil bus leaves. We have not checked any hotels here, so we don’t name one.
The countryside north of Ronda, around Los Frontones, suits drivers. You lose the evening stroll but gain a pool, a garden and a car park at the door.
Driving to a central hotel: the bridge cameras
The town hall’s rule is simple: only light vehicles registered for tax in Ronda may use the axis of Calle Armiñán, the Puente Nuevo and Virgen de la Paz. Cameras sit on the Cuesta de las Imágenes and on Virgen de la Paz. Local press reported 49,698 fines in the first five months, from August to December 2025.
Hotels inside the zone can tell the local police about a guest’s booking so the car can pass. That covers the Parador, Don Miguel, Catalonia Ronda and Maestranza, and probably Montelirio, which you reach along Calle Armiñán. Email your number plate before you arrive. If the hotel can’t confirm it, park outside the zone; our Ronda parking guide has the fees.
The big underground car park at Plaza del Socorro, which older guides recommend, has been shut since 21 August 2026 on a fire-service safety report. Don’t plan around it.
The hotels, area by area
Parador de Ronda (El Mercadillo)
The Parador is on Plaza de España, beside the Puente Nuevo, about 2 minutes’ walk from the middle of the bridge by our routing. It has a paid garage; the Parador does not publish the fee, and third-party figures disagree, so ask when you book. The pool is seasonal. You are inside the camera zone, so the hotel needs your plate. It suits couples and anyone splurging on one night by the gorge. See the Parador de Ronda website or Parador de Ronda on Booking.com.
Hotel Don Miguel (El Mercadillo)
Don Miguel, at Plaza de España 4, describes itself as at the foot of the Puente Nuevo, and we make it about a minute’s walk. Its room types are sold by view: the Plaza de España, or the bridge with a window, a balcony or a terrace. The restaurant opens from noon to midnight. The hotel’s own site says nothing about parking, so ask before you drive in, or leave the car at Martínez Astein. Book it for the view from the room. Hotel Don Miguel website or Hotel Don Miguel on Booking.com.
Catalonia Ronda (El Mercadillo)
At Virgen de la Paz 16, Catalonia Ronda says it is less than 200 m from the bridge, about 3 minutes on foot. It has a rooftop pool, a spa for over-16s and a family junior suite that sleeps four. Parking is in a nearby car park at €17 a day with no booking needed, and rooms start from €140 a night for superior and triple deluxe rooms (both checked October 2026, no dates attached). This is the pick for families who want a pool in town. Catalonia Ronda website or Catalonia Ronda on Booking.com.
Hotel Maestranza (El Mercadillo)
The Maestranza faces the bullring at Virgen de la Paz 24-26, about 4 minutes from the bridge. The hotel puts the bus station 8 minutes away on foot, which matters if you plan to catch the Setenil bus. It opens all year. Private parking costs €18 a day, subject to availability (checked October 2026). No pool is mentioned. Good for bus travellers and drivers who want the car under the same roof. Hotel Maestranza website or Hotel Maestranza on Booking.com.
Hotel Montelirio (La Ciudad)
Montelirio is on Calle Tenorio in the old town, 100 m from the bridge by the hotel’s own count. Its parking is private and must be booked ahead; you stop briefly at Calle Tenorio 16 to unload and the staff explain the options. Doubles start from €104 a night, rooms with views from €159 and the junior suite from €200 (checked October 2026). It is the mid-range choice for couples who want old-town quiet with the bridge a short walk away. Hotel Montelirio website or Hotel Montelirio on Booking.com.
Hotel La Fuente de la Higuera (countryside)
This four-star country hotel is on the Partido de los Frontones, north of Ronda. Our routing gives about 8 km by road to the bridge and 15 km to Setenil, so it is on the way. It has an outdoor pool, a restaurant cooking partly with produce from its own land, and free parking on site with no reservation needed. Small dogs up to 7 kg are allowed in the double rooms for €20 a night. It suits couples with a car who plan a Setenil day. La Fuente de la Higuera website or La Fuente de la Higuera on Booking.com.
Hotel Boutique Molino del Arco (countryside)
Also on the Partido de los Frontones, Molino del Arco has 22 rooms, a one-hectare garden, a restaurant and a pool open daily from 10:00 to 20:00. Parking is free and for guests only. The hotel says the centre is 15 minutes away. Pets cost €25 each a night. Drivers, dog owners and couples on a splurge are the fit. Molino del Arco website or Molino del Arco on Booking.com.
Hotel & Spa Plaza Arriate (Arriate)
Arriate is a small town about 5 km from Ronda on the road to Setenil. This 16-room hotel is on Plaza de la Constitución, with a spa at €30 a person and rooms from €64 a night (checked October 2026). We could not confirm its parking. The Ronda to Setenil bus stops in Arriate (at Casas Nuevas while road works last), so the hotel can work without a car from Monday to Saturday; check the walk to the stop. The budget pick. Hotel & Spa Plaza Arriate website or Plaza Arriate on Booking.com.
Ronda as a base for Setenil and the white villages
Setenil is 19 km from Ronda, about 30 minutes by car. Without one, Sierra de las Nieves bus line 66 takes 45 minutes and costs €2.32: five departures a day Monday to Friday, three on Saturday, none on Sundays or public holidays (operator timetable, checked October 2026). The first leaves Ronda at 08:45 and the last bus back on weekdays leaves Setenil at 18:45. If you would rather not deal with timetables, the half-day coach trip from Ronda bus station shown above does the round trip with a ride on Setenil’s tourist train.
From a countryside base you can do Setenil in the morning and Olvera or Zahara de la Sierra in the afternoon. Our white villages guide maps the rest. For a night in Setenil itself, see Setenil de las Bodegas hotels.
